We’re All Pilgrims
Marian Pilgrimage Diary
This is my 15-day Marian Pilgrimage Diary.
That way, you eavesdrop on my thoughts.
Through this diary, I’ll take you with me as we zoom all over the planet—visiting China, Germany, Portugal, Spain, France, and Italy.
This trip is a special for me. First, because I’m bringing my 2 sons. Second, because I’m bringing a lovely personal masseuse. (Oh, she happens to be my wife too.) This means I will have to squeeze writing diary entries in between carrying my kids and a truckload of luggage.
When I was single, I used to travel with a tiny hand-carry bag and nothing else. But in this trip, I drag behind me 4 massive suitcases, a backpack filled with pampers, 1 roller bag filled with toys, 1 duffel bag filled with milk bottles, and 1 computer bag. Oh, and 2 strollers too. Many times, I feel like I was a walking Christmas tree.
Yes, marriage is a burden in a literal sense of the word. But a beautiful burden I would never dream of exchanging for anything else!
In this trip, I also have the great privilege of bringing with me 70 wonderful pilgrims. We also have a fantastic team to lead this group: Fr. Joseph Skelton as our chaplain, Kerygma Preacher Adrian Panganiban as tour organizer, and Fish editor George Gabriel as our videographer for preacherinbluejeans.com (Yes, log on there and it might be playing there now!) My Beaconlight team, Beckie Sanchez and Vita Monforte assists Adrian, so everything is organized well.
Okay friends, here’s my first entry. Buckle your seatbelts, enjoy the ride, and be very blessed…
Day 1: Interruptions As God’s Special Gift
Flying From Manila to Guangzhou, China
I’ve learned to smile and trust when things don’t go my way.
After taking off from Manila, our plane was supposed to pick up passengers in Guangzhou, China. We were not even supposed to deplanebut just wait for an hour—and off we go to Europe. But surprise, surprise! We couldn’t land. The plane circled above the Guangzhou airport for 4 hours! Many of us were imagining the worst scenarios. Were we being hijacked? Was there a bomb on the plane that the airport wasn’t accepting us?
Finally, after 4 hours of getting dizzy, the pilot announced that there was so much fog, he couldn’t land. So we diverted to Hongkong to refuel. After two hours, we were on our way back to Guangzhou again.
This time, we landed safely. We thought it would be a quick landing, some chitchat with the crew, and off we fly again.
No. Instead, we were asked to step down the plane.
When we did, they announced that we were going to stay in China for 12 hours! Reason: Because the flight crew had maxed out their allowable hours to fly, they now had to rest.
It was a huge interruption none of us could afford.
You know what? I thank God I was travelling with 70 pilgrims, not 70 tourists. If they were 70 tourists, I would have heard 70 grumblers grumbling great grumbles.
But gosh, I didn’t even hear one complaint.
Instead, I saw each of them choosing to see the delay as God’s invitation for them to rest, to enjoy, to listen, to pray, to sleep… We enjoyed the hotel they gave us. We ate our free buffets. We gathered to pray and sing together.
Friends, all of us experience interruptions in our lives.
And when interruptions come, we have two choices: We can either complain at this terrible intrusion to our schedule or we can see them as a precious gift from God—a surprise so special, it will bless us in a way we can’t understand.
When a delay comes into your life, always ask yourself: How can I be blessed by this interruption?
Life is too short to complain.

ReplyDeleteHi Bro Bo,
It's me BRO JIMMY of SINGAPORE.
Praise God. I have waiting for your Diary.
At last even though there are many interruptions,
still God is in control. Still life must go on.
My insight. GOD'S DELAYS ARE NOT GOD'S DENIALS.
I wait without thinking it is a Denial. There was
a jammed but we still continue to praise God in the
midst of these HINDRANCES.
It's very inspiring that God's people knew how to
worship instead of complaining.
10 years ago, I and the our prayer groups in Caloocan
Malabon and Navotas are going to Batangas to have a 3
day retreat there. On our way to Batangas, we CAUGHT
in a traffic jammed at the highway. We have to reached
the place at 4:00 PM because Bishop Bacani will
give the first talk. Our vehicle is not moving for
30 minutes. There was an INTERRUPTION. Instead of
complaining we sang worhip songs and we spoke in
tongues. There was a tremendous outpouring of the
Spirit and as our eyes are close, we just feel that
our vehicle is moving and overtaking all the other
vehicles and we reached the place before 4PM.
INTERRUPTIONS are OPPORTUNITIES for us to CONTINOUSLY
MOVE FORWARD AND TO GROW MORE.
Thank you Bro Bo for your Day 1 Pilgrimage Diary.
God bless to all the Pilgrims....
WE ARE ALL GOING TO A PILGRIMAGE ON EARTH. WE ARE ALL
TOURISTS ON EARTH, TRAVELLING UNTIL WE REACH OUR FINAL
DESTINATIONS.
GOD BLESS.
ps... I have started distributing SVP Books here in
Singapore.

I tried to send a comment this morning at the PIBJ
ReplyDeletesite but no code came out. so her i am at your blog
site.
As i mentiooned this morning, the "delays" in our
lives are just that. A time to step back, a time to
reflect,a time to feel the things around us. Sometimes
we are too busywe forget to "pause".
I guess the "delays"-glitzes in the your websites were
really just pauses so that we can be ready with this
Marian Pilgrimage you will be bringing to us.
Thank you very much to all of you and may God bless
and keep you all in this your "delay".
Dear Bro Bo,
ReplyDeleteI never expected that I would sit here in our office for 8 hours without noticing the time. I just prayed to God that if I could only have the something to get busy with since I am here in the office for "security sake". In other words, I am just here to act as a security guard. Actually I am the assistant of our division, it happened to be that we are only 4. The other 3 including my boss had gone for vacation (its vacation time here in Dubai). So I was left alone here doing nothing but to wait if there's any ship engine inquiry on the phone or in the email. So instead of just watching nonsense videos in Utube or browsing around yahoo for jokes, i simply typed your name in Google (I heard it in Couples for Christ session-I am a happy member of it) and whoala! I didnt noticed that I was sitting here for 8 straight hours enjoying your articles your Preacher in Blue jeans videos, feeling more inspired and a go getter (actually emailed for homeschooling inquiry, and become a member of Kerygma family), until a message from our service driver came and let me stand up from where I am sitting. I can't wait to tell my husband about my experience in knowing you, listening to you, and listening to God's words... See even this reply , I even didn't notice that it was too long already! I can't wait to be in the office again tomorrow for the free internet to visit your site again. So glad now that they are all on vacation and I have the opportunity to answer all my lifelong questions on how I can serve God more. :)
See you tomorrow!
Dear Bro. Bo,
ReplyDeleteNgayon ko lang nasurf tong website mo. maganda...
Napalaking tulong sa aking situation ngayon... salamat...
Keep up the good work...
How I wish makita din kita ...
Marami kang natutulungan....
Hi Bo, I\'m an OCW, a freelancer, whose job depends on each project by clients abroad. This article do eased my burden of waiting for another contract work.I\'ve been jobless for 2 months now... I do complain always why my agent seems slow in finding me another contract, for someone who\'s used on working 7 days a week & on-call site support type of job, i easily get so impatient on my forced vacation.. Maybe God just wants me to spend more time with my family esp with my old aunt, before, I\'m always occupied of earning more to meet their needs...also to spend more time with my fiance\', routinely & painstakingly waiting for me during my contract abroad... I realized I still could be a blessing even while waiting for another work... :-) TY! edel

Life is too short to complain. "
