Before telling you what we did, let me tell you a story.
One day, a man was in
“Wow,” the man gushed and went on his way.
The man went to
But finally, when he went to a church in
The priest smiled, “Son, you’re in

Each year, 15 million tourists visit this city.
For many people who haven’t been here,
But when you stay in
In fact, you realize there are actually three Romes living beside each other.
First, there’s the Ancient Rome. With 2500+ year-old palaces of the emperors, the giant coliseum, violent gladiators, and one of the greatest empires ever known to man.
Second, there’s Christian Rome. The great Martyrs shed their blood here for their faith. And Emperor Constantine welcomed Christianity here as well. His mother, St. Helena, lived in
Finally, there’s Modern Rome. A busy city and economic powerhouse. And like any modern city, there’s dirty graffiti on the walls, drugs, prostitution, and syndicated crime. The Mafia, just in case you forgot, comes from
Many years ago, my father took a pilgrimage here, and a man accosted him on the street and stole his watch. That shook him to the bone. Why, of all places, in Holy Rome?
Two of our pilgrims, while walking on the street, met two men who claimed to be policemen. They asked for their passports—and wallets. Thankfully, they had very little money and left them unharmed.
Don’t get me wrong. Crime isn’t much more in
But crime in
Here’s another thing about
If not for pilgrims from all over the world, churches would be empty. Many of them have become museums.
Most Europeans no longer go to Church.
So we ask a difficult question: Why? Isn’t this where most of our favourite Saints come from? Isn’t this where God’s church has its headquarters? Wasn’t our faith exported from
A more difficult question: When the aging generation who still go to Mass pass to the next world, will Christian Rome become part of Ancient Rome? Will everything simply become a museum?
I will answer my question tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteDear Bro Bo
It's me Bro JIMMY CRUZ of Singapore...
Where are the people of God? Where are the young ones
who should be the one filling the empty church.
Is God still there in Rome... Definitely He is
there... He is the One who is drawing people near
to Him, near to the Church..
Jesus is inside that empty church but became a museum.
Even it has been converted into a museum already, the
outpouring flow of the Presence of God is still there,
ready to touch every person seeking Him and paying
homage in that church.
Don't limit the Power of God. He is Limitless
and His boundaries has no end. His love is in the
4 corners of this planet. His love is as far as the
ends of the universe....
God is in Rome and in every part of the world.
IF THERE ARE NO PEOPLE TO WORSHIP HIM, THE STONES
AND THE LEAVES OF THE PLANTS ARE THOSE WHO WILL
WORSHIP GOD.
LET'S CELEBRATE BECAUSE GOD IS IN THE MIDST OF
US ALWAYS.
In prayer
Bro Jimmy Cruz (Singapore)
Bro. Bo,
ReplyDeleteIf young people in Rome doesn't go to church anymore, let it be because every
living thing does worship GOD in there own way. Big or small , significant or
not am sure there are many who worship GOD in the most insignificant places and
the most simple way. Who.... I do worship the LORD in my most simple way ...in
every corner of my life. Pray that young christians will go to church and make
a call to GOD be it long distance or local.... GOD will definitely answer..ASAP

Dear Kuya Bo,
ReplyDeleteI think that you had made it a bit freaky for those who read this about Holy Relics. The facts are true, but sometimes Museums have not been designated by Church Hierarchy as destined places such as:
1. Churches- major and famous relics, under Altars, most Roman Churches have intact bodies or huge body parts, thanks to __________ .
2. Priests- travelling sometimes with Holy Relics on their bags.
3. Laity- I am also part of this too and more are becoming too.... I'll post it later in Neil's Blog....
About the "load of Holy Relics, Helena sent....." Nope, I think it was another Pope who ordered the removal of all remains of Martyrs and Saints to the Pantheon.... which is used as a church (I think it was Our Lady, Queen of all Saints).. eventually later returned to their places
