Help Me Preach My Talks—And You’ll Get The Preacher’s Blessing!

You’ve Been My Audience; Will You Be My Research Team Too?

I don’t want to be selfish.

I want to share with you the blessings that I receive as a Preacher.

People don’t know this, but when I preach, the person who gets the most blessed is the preacher himself. Why? Because I spend enormous amounts of time studying, reflecting, and rehearsing my talk. Because of this, I don’t only listen to the talk, I also munch on it, chew it, and digest it more. So the chance that I apply these truths in my life is greater.

Today, I ask myself, “With the power of the internet in our hands, why is preaching still a one-way street?” It shouldn’t be. You can help me give these talks! And in the process, share the blessings I receive as a Preacher.

So I’m writing down here the summaries of new Teaching Series for the weekly FEASTs for July, August, and September 2007, entitled How To Get Rid Of Bad Habits Now. It will be a powerful teaching series because all of us have bad habits! So when you join the weekly FEAST at Valle Verde Country Club (Beside ULTRA), Pasig every Sunday at 9:00am, you’ll hear a better talk!

If you live abroad or in the provinces, you can catch these talks either by (1) ordering the Audio CD or DVD, (2) watching it on ABC 5 every Tuesday at 10:30pm, or (3) watching it on www.preacherinbluejeans.com Ultimately, you’ll find these truths in book form—and together, we’ll bless millions of people.

Read the topics. I prepared a “head, heart, and hand” goal for each talk. “Head” means what I want you to learn, “heart” means what I want you to feel during the talk, and “hand” means what I want you to do after the talk.

Next: Write on the comments box below short (nothing longer than 8 sentences) personal testimonies, stories, jokes, quotations, analogies, skits, popular song lyrics or popular movie scenes that will help explain or expound any of the talks below.

Thanks for being my Research Consultants!

Listen to these talks at the weekly FEAST in Valle Verde Country Club (Beside UlTRA), Pasig, every Sunday at 9:00am. We’ve got people who go there each week from as far Laguna, Cavite, and Bulacan. Because they go where the blessing flows!

I remain your friend,

Bo Sanchez

PS. If you haven’t joined the www.kerygmafamily.com, you’re missing a lot of blessings too. I send my partners a mountain of spiritual nourishment. Log on there now!

Series Title:

How To Get Rid Of Bad Habits Now!

Jul 22 Talk 1: Discover What You Really Need

Head: To learn that addictions are symptoms of deeper love needs

Heart: To feel the hunger of love within—and feel loved

Hand: To seek help from God and others to meet our love needs

Summary:

Destructive bad habits or addictions are symptoms of deeper needs. Specifically, love needs. Meeting these deeper love needs will free us the urgency of our addictions. If not, we may be jumping from one addiction to another. How does one meet our deepest love needs? Receive God’s love, receiving love from the people around us, and radically loving ourselves. When we meet our love needs, we quiet the throbbing ache within that fuels our addictions. They no longer become compelling or urgent as they used to.

Jul 29 Talk 2: Focus On The Ambition And Not The Addiction

Head: Learn to work on a dream, not merely fight the bondage

Heart: Feel hope that you can get out of this addiction

Hand: Create a dream and take the first step towards it

Summary:

Tell yourself 10x, “I will not think of a pink elephant.” (Try it.) Guess what you’re thinking of right now? A pink elephant. What you focus on grows. So if you focus on your addiction, you make it grow. Telling yourself “I will not smoke” 100x will make you think of smoking 100x. Instead, you need to focus on a dream of your healthy body jogging on the hills under the blue sky. We need to create a dream, an ambition, and focus. Doing so, we build self-esteem, self-respect, and fill our love needs.

Aug 5 Talk 3: Love The Sinner And The Saint Within

Head: Learn to forgive oneself and see beauty within

Heart: Feel happy after being released from self-anger

Hand: Forgive oneself

Summary:

Many addictions come from self-hatred. (Again, a love need that isn’t met.) To heal our addiction, we need to heal our self-hatred. We need to accept our past, embrace our weaknesses, and forgive our sins. Indeed, we need to forgive ourselves the way God forgives us—total and absolute! Aside from that, we also need to celebrate our strengths and bless the world.

Aug 12 Very Special Talk

Aug 19 Talk 4: Create A New Outer World

Head: Learn what needs to be removed, what needs to be added in our life

Heart: Feel the power one has to design our outer world

Hand: Design one’s outer world

Summary:

We’ve heard this statement before: “Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are.” We are influenced by our environment. But instead of resigning ourselves to the external powers around us, we must also acknowledge this powerful truth--That we can influence our environment. (Yes, we have the power to choose our friends.) We need to create a new world that will make us reach our dream and free us from our bondages. That means designing the best relationships, schedules, jobs, recreation, TV shows, music, and everything else in our outer world.

Aug 26 Talk 5: Redefine Yourself

Head: Learn what “labels” need to be removed, what need to be added

Heart: Feel the power that one can create new labels for oneself

Hand: Create new labels

Summary:

We become the labels we give ourselves. The problem with many labels is they are unconscious. For example, some addicts unconsciously define themselves as weak, failures, monsters, evil, monsters--and so they become the these labels they give themselves. We need to learn to give ourselves new labels based on our true identity in God. If we know the truth, it will set us free.

Sep 2 Talk 6: Correct Your Faith

Head: Learn that distorted theology can worsens one’s addictions

Heart: Feel the joy of being released from a wrong theology

Hand: Create a more accurate theology

Summary:

Distorted theology has helped lock many people in their addictions. What is distorted theology? A wrathful, vengeful God who is preoccupied with your sinfulness. (Our love need for God’s love isn’t met.) Or a religion that defines holiness as saying NO to all our needs, even legitimate, valid ones. (Our love need for self-love isn’t met.) Or a pessimistic view towards human beings as sinful, instead of focusing on our inner beauty. (Our labels tend to be pessimistic as well.) We need to identify these distorted beliefs and overhaul them.

Sep 9 Talk 7: Take Charge!

Head: Learn to stop blaming and take responsibility

Heart: Feel the power of taking responsibility

Hand: Select one area where he needs to stop blame

Summary:

When we blame, we lose our power to change our lives. Addicts are experts in blame. Unless we learn to take responsibility, our walk to freedom will be slow. What does it mean to take responsibility? By taking baby steps. How does one eat an elephant? One bite at a time. By growing in small victories, we gain strength to win bigger ones.

Sep 16 Talk 8: Fire All Engines (Conclusion)

Head: Learn all the elements that can help free us from addiction

Heart: Feel hope and joy that one can indeed be free

Hand: Choose to work on one of these elements

Summary:

There is no one specific way to overcome an addiction. In fact, surveys suggest that there may be 70% who overcome their bondages on their own, without any help from an Alcoholics Anonymous group or therapy or counselling. (Some of those 70% received their freedom when they joined a prayer meeting.) But it’s also true that lasting change can only happen when we actually work on making ourselves grow. To summarize the entire teaching series, we shall again revisit the various elements necessary for making healing lasting and permanent.

Instructions: Write your inputs below to explain or expound any of the talks above. As much as possible, make it below 8 sentences. Any personal testimonies, stories, jokes, quotations, analogies, skits, popular song lyrics or popular movie scenes…

Talk No. 1 Discover what you really need (Testimony)

1)Before I came to know and accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour, I am one guy who always seek love and attention from my family. 2)My parents are very responsible, supportive and as well as disciplinarians, but in a way that always hurt me physically and emotionally. 3) Due to this methodology of disciplining, I found myself being comfortable of going away from that situation. 4) I seek friends who can provide me comforts and thrills in life like going to addiction in drinking beers and wines, indulging in marijuana session. 5)From one addiction to another addiction, I went into watching bold movies, then to masturbation and womanizing.
6)Then in one point of my life, I felt so depressed with what I am doing for many years and I began to pray and seek God and one night I heard the song by Gary Valenziano. 7)"Take me out of the dark My Lord, I don't wanna be there." 8) Now because of God's love, I am addicted in loving, serving God and preaching the Good News throughout the world. AMEN

    Talk No. 7 Take Charge

    1) Oftentimes we always say "Bahala si Lord". It is God's responsibility. 2) We pray Lord I don't want to drink wine anymore but everytime we see the tempting bottle of the Ginebra San Miguel, we will
say, Lord if I drink this one more time and I will not get drunk, then it means it is still alright for me to drink.
    3) If we really want to get rid of addiction, prayers are not enough. 4) Faith is not enough because the word of God clearly said Faith without action is dead. 5) We have to do a part in order that we can get away from any bondages. 6) Let's take the responsibility. 7) We have to pray of course and have faith in God but during the process, Do our best and God will do the rest. 8) The strength that we we need to overcome these addictions will come from God

  10. Talk 2: Focus On The Ambition And Not The Addiction

    1) Without ambition one starts nothing. Without work one finishes nothing. The prize will not be sent to you. You have to win it. – Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1803-1882, American Poet, Essayist

    2) It's never too late to realize your ambitions. Take the first step by daring to dream big dreams. Then have the confidence to take a few risks and make those dreams a reality. You'll be glad you did. -- Don MacRae, President of the Lachlan Group

    3) Great ambition is the passion of a great character. Those endowed with it may perform very good or very bad acts. All depends on the principals which direct them. - Napoleon Bonaparte

    4) Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved. -Helen Keller

    8) Do not exchange your long-term ambition, your long-lasting fulfillment to a short-term pleasure and a short-term solution.

    Hope this helps.

    God bless you.

"yes, yes, and then"?asked the crowd."I don't know"said he "He took out his lunch and i took out mine."(Thats The End of the story about "ah peh and the pope")

This is a joke about forgiveness. I hope this helps.

    Prisoner of War

About a month ago, a man in Amsterdam felt that he needed to confess, so he went to his priest, "Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. During WWII I hid a refugee in my attic."

"Well," answered the priest, "that's not a sin."

"But I made him agree to pay me 20 Guilders for every week he stayed."

"I admit that wasn't good, but you did it for a good cause."

"Oh, thank you, Father; that eases my mind. I have one more question..."

    "What is that, my son?"

"Do I have to tell him the war is over?"

    God Bless you.

  18. Forgiveness is the miracle of love....if we have no love we can never forgive. But the more important question is, where should love begin? From our self - of course! What we do not have we cannot hope to share truly with others...even Jesus taught us: "Love your neighbour as you love yourself...so this makes the basis for loving others - loving self first...and forgiving others by forgiving our self first!

  19. Taking charge

I learned this from Philippine Psychology or Sikolohiyang Pilipino

The etymology of the phrase "bahala na" comes from "bathala na" or "leave it to God"... the problem with this is that he phrase becomes twisted by the foreigners when they see Filipino farmers resting and saying "bahala na"... they thought and labeled the phrase as fatalism or leaving everything to fate...

the real meaning of "bahala na" before it is being twisted preserves the meaning of its source "bathala na"... it actually means doing everything that we can do (taking charge) then surrender it to God after we have done our part... (bahala na si Lord)

Since I joined the renewal,i feel like or i more definte with our needs, and i can always share to others that without the necessary teachings and daily Readings of the Word and a community to sustain your growth,it will be hard for anybody...and then accepting Jesus as the Lord and Savior.more...

I am always filled with God's grace thru your articles. I am also preaching for sometimes in our charismatic community, your articles could help me a lot.
I'd like to share with you about Talk No.3 LOVE THE SINNER AND THE SAINT WITHIN. I have a friend before whom i hated most, i don't want to see his face, i cursed him...I hate him. I have this feeling for almost 10yrs, i said to myself "I WILL NEVER FORGIVE HIM". I don't have peace of mind.
One day , while i am reflecting on the PEA Chapel, I decided to go out from the shell of hatred coz hatred will nothing to do with my spiritual growth it could only affect my relationship with the Lord, I'm so tired i said, and I asked Jesus to help me forgive this person because for my own I can't, I need Jesus, to ease this hatred and pain. I thank God because when i went out from the PEA chapel he is there with his wife, we talk with each other with a smile and at that time i have peace in mind and heart till now. We are now again friends. Look; how good is the Lord!
We can forgive people no matter how hard it could be IF:1. we decided for ourselves that we want to forgive, 2.surrender our heart s and minds to our Lord Jesus
Christ, and 3. ask the Holy Spirit to flow upon us the Grace of His love.

May the Holy Trinity binds us all together with His Love for us to continue spreading His Words to all nations.

GOD IS GOOD! LET US REJOICE!!!!

  27. Hi Bro. Bo! I heard this funny story from Fr. Erik Santos looooooong before, when he conducted a Sunday TV Mass in ABS-CBN. I hope I could still narrate the exact story or at least get the message across, I might miss some original parts of it. :D

There were 3 believers who wanted to prove their faith in God: a Muslim, a Buddhist, and a Catholic. To prove it, they'd jump one by one from a mountain top and call out to their "God" to save them. The first one was the Muslim. After doing some ritual prayers to prepare, he jumped off the cliff and shouted, "Allaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!!" but he fell flat on the ground. Next was the Buddhist. After doing some meditation exercises and prayers, he jumped off the cliff. But before reaching the ground, the Buddhist shouted in a fast manner, "Buddha! Buddha! Buddha! Buddha!" and continued it until he reached the mountain top again. The Catholic was so amazed and nervous too that he may not be able to come back to the mountain top. So after series of prayers, he jumped off the cliff and shouted, "Jesuuuuuuuuuussss!!!!" but when he almost reached the ground, he shouted, "Buddha! Buddha! Buddha!"

There! Hope this story would help for Correct Your Faith. :D God Bless!

    Love Rola

I was in National bookstore when i saw this thick book entitled post secret. I was just gonna browse through it but i ended up reading everything. It contains all the secret of people around the world written in a postcard. I was amazed not only by the secret it holds but at the fact people design a postcard write down their innermost feeling and send it to someone they barely know to be published in a book. Reading all through their secrets made me realized that im not the only one going through the painful ordeal of hidng something inside me. I guess it made me recognized my own fear, anger insecurities that ive been hiding even to myself. I guess recognition is the first step of healing. Telling their secret to the world even anynomously somehow free them of their bondage and reading it somehow inspire me to do the same.

i'm a self-confessed perfectionist, but just today, i've realized, it isn't bad to seek perfection or excellence, but it is in how you handle the aftereffect of not reaching that certain perfection. will it be in frustration, depression and guilt of being imperfect? or are we going to face it with joy? joy to be able to do it again in a different manner, and ultimately discover and learn something new... ;)

    ***

we are imperfect human beings: with imperfect motives, ideas, perceptions, philosophies and actions; but our God is a perfect God: perfectly merciful, perfectly forgiving and perfectly loving...

There isn't really any need to fit in.. Or any need to prove something to the world... One doesn't need to prove one's worth when one sees the greatness of God's love...

We, and our finite rational understanding would never fathom how much & how great the love of God is... But just grasping a minute particle of that love would erase all insecurities in life, and that's the start of life... And the beginning of living for God's Glory...

    TALK 5 SHARING:

Say/Label yourself by establishing the Word of God (2 Corinthians 13:1). Jesus said you can have what you Say/Label to yourself as the Word says you’re healed (1 Peter 2:24). Instead of saying, “Pray for me, I’m taking the flu;” say “I am healed!” or “I am the body of Christ and Satan has no power over me. For I overcome evil with good!” (1 Corinthians 12:27; Romans 12:21) because your ‘tongue’ will set on fire healing power of the Word. Our body born to life in the Spirit has the healing ability which satan distorts but knows how limited to what you can say/label. You shall live by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Your body will obey your faith-filled words. Your body should be trained according to the Word of God. Your body obeys the command of your ‘tongue.’ Label yourself: “I am a new creation in Christ, I am His workmanship created in Christ Jesus. Therefore, I have the mind of Christ and the wisdom of God is formed within me” (2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:10; 1 Corinthians 2:16). Such is the Power of the Tongue governed by the Word of God! Amen.

  32. Hi Bro. Bo,

I've been a member of Kerygma Family since last year while I'm in Bahrain. While there, I'm always watching and listening to your talk before office, during lunch break and before I sleep. What inspired to go back here in the Philippines was your talk on January 18, "The secret of a loving family" followed by a very tear dropping talk on Feb. 19, Parent-Child Relationship". I know the latter was a gift of God for me as this day was my b-day. I changed my vision that very day to focus on my family once I go back.

I would like to respond to your email entitled,"“Help Me Preach My Talks—And You’ll Get The Preacher’s Blessing!” But I may be out of topic, I started to write a blog called Raising Godly Kids (http://raisinggodlykids.blogspot.com). This blog I want to share to those parent out there who wants to raise their children in God's way. I will not be able to do this without the two talk I've mentioned above.

I do hope that you will support this blog. I am not a writer but my goal to serve God inspired to make this blog.

    Thank you very much.

  33. hi bo.

i would like to share to you how i view my LOVE TANK.
i used this description in my talks before in the youth ministry.
My Love Tank is like a "tapayan", the big clay jars used in the province for storing water in the kitchen, but the difference is, the faucet has no lock, and the jar has no cover. Thus, everything it gets will come out from the small faucet below gradually. then, i always tell the young people that we need to fill our tanks with good things so good things will flow from us. when we put covers on our tanks we will not be able to accept anything but what's inside us is continuously flowing out. The sad part is that when we are empty already, people will still shake you and pour whatever is left, and they will leave us empty handed. That's where the challenge comes, i encourage the young people to seek people, places, events and things where thay can receive love, forgiveness, peace & joy so that good things will comes out from them and be a source of blessings to others. And to allow God to fill whatever is lacking in their tanks.

thank u so much. how i wish i could write also like you. pray for me.

    meng

  34. ...though graphically violent (that's why the colors were purposely made to be faded), the battle of greed and evil versus that of family and heritage, as King Leonidas puts it was Sparta. Yes, the movie 300 Spartans made me recall how ambivalent the call for survival in this world. Oo, natalo sila, pero come to think of it -- at that time in history, its 300 versus the world... and in every chapter of world history, there is always a traitor (just like Judas...).

I can still recall a Carmelite nun friend (now deceased) always reminding me like a rosary litany,
" if you are good (only), you will make the people bad; but if you are a saint, you will make the people good..."

the battle never stops. even before the world was formed, there was mutiny... rebellion... even among angels... the evil vying for power... the good defending only what was pure, and of God...

and in our present times, there's concoction... mixture... fuzion... cross-breed... evil hiding under the guise of good...

addiction... all sorts of it... I believe CAN ONLY BE HEALED by what is real... what is pure... what is divine... real, pure, divine love like JESUS...

HOW IS THIS SO? we can cease to say it... but never to show it... for to show is to act... and accomplish...

your LOVE advocacy story about a kid that started your apostolate in Antipolo is a REAL, PURE, DIVINE shining example of WHY Jesus came...

For me, our senses and strenght may fail us one day, but never will the footprints we made in the sandy beaches of God's Paradise -- unknowingly, the good things we left behind everytime we share an act of love, creates an imprint in the sandy beaches of Jesus heart... and He knows to whom those foot prints belong... never to be washed away in eternity...

with holy indifference, may i grow like you , Bro. Bo in your boldness to incarnate what sent Jesus to us 2,000 years ago.

Ang galing ng pag-ibig mo sa Kanya! Sana magawa ko rin ang kadakilaan ng pag-ibig mo sa Dakilang Pag-Ibig ni Kristo!

    More power to you ministry!
    God bless!

    i remain...

  36. i just wanna share with you a line from the novel of paulo coelho 'BRIDA' that really made me think.
    it says:

" JUDGING ONESELF TO BE INFERIOR TO OTHER PEOPLE IS ONE OF THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE WAY TO BE DIFFERENT".

hope you can make a preaching out of this.

  40. (Testimony)

Two yrs ago i made a promise that i will not follow my manager who always blame the people around her. After 6 months i was given the opportunity to be a manager. What I promised to myself didn't happen, I've done the same. I blamed the people around me, I did not take the responsibilty.I hate myself after doing this, because i failed. I've done the same thing because I forgot to ask for God's guidance, forgiveness, and for strenght for me to go away from this addiction. I just believe n myself during that time. And now i'm doing it step by step to change my life with God's guidance. As the song "STEP BY STEP WE'RE MOVING FORWARD , LITTLE BY LITTLE TAKING GROUND, EVERY PRAYER A POWERFUL WEAPON".

Thank you bro Bo bec. I was enlightened again.

    Godbless to all of us........
