How To Turn Your Good Friday To Your Easter Sunday
Are you a good person?
If you are, do you wonder why bad things still happen to you?
Harold Kushner wrote a book with this same title and it became an instant bestseller. Because people want to know the answer.
Sorry, I’m not going to give you an answer. (Nobody can.)
Because the problem of suffering will always remain a mystery.
Instead, I’m going to tell you what to do.
I will tell you what to do in the midst of your suffering—so that you can overcome your suffering. How you can turn your Good Friday into your Easter Sunday!
Are you ready?
Let me share with you a powerful story…
Your Greatest Curse Can Turn To Be
Your Greatest Blessing
Michelangelo had a persecutor who was very jealous of him.
(I don’t mean the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, but the real Michelangelo.)
The persecutor’s name was Bramante, a famous architect during that time.
By the way, do you know Bramante? I’m positive 99% of you never heard of him. Do you notice how persecutors fade away in the dust, but the one they persecute become legends? An important lesson to remember!
When Pope Julius thought of making a tomb, he asked Michelangelo to do it.
But when Bramante heard of it—and thought of the acclaim that Michelangelo would receive from it—he discouraged the Pope from continuing with the project. True enough, after Michelangelo searched far and wide for the perfect marble for the project—which took 8 long months—he learned that the Pope had abandoned the project. Michelangelo was very disappointed.
One day, the Pope thought of another project.
Upon hearing about it, Bramante concluded that it would be a time-consuming project and would receive very little public acclaim. So he told the Pope to give it to Michelangelo. In his mind, it would keep the artist busy for years—and accomplish nothing of great value.
Besides, it was also a painting job, and Bramante knew that Michelangelo was not even a painter, but a sculptor.
Michelangelo saw the trap. He knew it was a ploy by his enemy to destroy him. At first, he declined. But the Pope insisted, and not wanting to deny his Holiness, he agreed.
The project was indeed time-consuming. It took Michelangelo 4 years to finish, and he almost lost his eyesight because of it…
I’m sure you know the project by now: The Sistine Chapel. The grandest masterpiece of Michelangelo. More than anything, it made him one of the greatest painters of all time.
What was meant to curse him turned out to be his greatest blessing.
Good Friday was supposed to be the greatest curse.
Yet it also turned out to be the greatest blessing.
No Matter What Trials Come,
Keep Doing The Good You’re Supposed To Do
I reflect on this story and look at my own life.
I’ve been serving God for that past 27 years, and I do get my share of little “Bramante’s” scattered here and there.
But without them, I would have missed my greatest blessings: spiritual growth, opportunities to serve, and the impact I have on people’s lives.
My biggest Bramante’s were the two men who molested me as a child.
Because of these indescribable painful experiences, I’ve been able to heal so many people who have the same inner wounds. (You can read more about this in two of my books, Your Past Does Not Define Your Future, and 7 Secrets To Real Freedom.)
I could also think of my other trials in life…
Oh, why do bad things happen to good people?
Here’s my great theological answer: I don’t know.
But this I know. No matter what trials come, I’ll do the good that I’m supposed to do.
And at the end of the day, I will win.
Friend, remain faithful to God in good times and in bad times.
And you’ll see how all things work for good to those who love Him.
And you’ll see how your Good Friday will turn to Easter Sunday.
Don’t ever give up!
May your dreams come true,
Bo Sanchez

HIstorically speaking, didn't Michelangelo also fall while working on the Sistine Chapel, which ultimately led to complications that caused his (untimely) death? I read somewhere that he didn't get to finish his work on the Chapel; someone else was hired to finish the painting. :-/
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, awesome article as always.
I agree no matter what bad things happen to you, you should not stop doing good things. Never give up the race is long change your life for better....stay away from people who try to pull you down and strive for your goal.
ReplyDeletewow! indeed an inspiring story... i will think of the message of this article every day... thanks...
ReplyDeletewhat can i say...I can relate to the example..quite literally! There are things that you know you deserve to have but then somebody takes it away from you out of selfsih ambition. Suffering awful pain and trouble : in and out. "when will this end" script seem overused under such circumstances!
ReplyDeleteI just want to say that this word comes to me very timely, i almost thought of giving up on everything...thank you...thank God!
WOW!!!! It's perfect timing for me, it's close story to me but what it hurt me is she's my friend. But now I know what to do. thanks alot its really help me.
ReplyDeletewow.. the message really shot through me.! it was very very very very appropriate for the situation im in at this very moment.. hundreds of exams and lots of laboratory reports and projects to do, all before March 31. i believe it was God who really nudged my hand to click on and read this article because He knew i badly needed some quiet words of wisdom..
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for writing this article. It certainl has touched my inner core. i know it will touch hundreds more... Arigatou gozaimasu!
Yes i agreed in this world we are living Bramante is always in our side, this is very logic to us.my eyes was opened.and makes me feel that life is a beautiful to live.amen
ReplyDeleteThank you Bo, Yes it's a very good and timely story for me. My dad murdered here in America in August 2007, Riverside County and a Hugh cover up by the authorities that should protect us. I have had prayers and encouragement to keep doing the right thing during this time by your community. I am so thankful for all your love and encouragement. Had just started the journey to baptism here in Carson California when this happened. I have been so angry at times but with Gods love and help this will turn into something good. I have had to learn so much to just try to get the justice my dad deserves. I now say I will use this knowledge to help others and to try to make a difference. At times I get so angry it could make me crazy. But I will use the energy as a opportunity to reach out and give relief and help to others. I want to ask all of you to help me with your prayers to get justice for my dad. In the spirit my dad worked with, self employed, good work ethics, worked though problems, innovator in his trade and came out a winner. He is in the Dragster Hall of Fame, with his innovation he built some of the first jet cars that held 6 world land speed records, along with other recent successful off road race truck projects. Please Pray for justice for Nye Frank, and for the courage and endurance needed to go through this. Thanks for the encouragement to be a winner not a whiner!!!
ReplyDeletePerfect! The challenge of our earth's journey is to reach the bottom line...eternal life...by being focus and doing good inspite of the "bramantes", sure we will achieve our goals. A very timely message this holy week... may all of us be guided to do the right thing inspite of...
ReplyDeletelife changing! like this article so much! inspires me to write mine maybe this week end!
ReplyDeletehi bro. bo,
ReplyDeletei agree ! all things will turn out to be good if you love the Lord.
let's us not grow weary in doing what is right...
count me in.
Godbless !
happy easter sunday !
This article inspires me to revert hopeless situations into a blessing/hope in disguise in order to bring out the hidden talents/soul dreams inside of me. And to respect the "Bramante's" in my life for God is in control and He will use them for His Greater Glory. Have a Blessed Week.
ReplyDeleteHi Bo,
ReplyDeleteYes, my wife and I have our own version of Bramante, still we will the good no matter what. And to acknowledge your parting words....Yes! we will never give up. Thank you for your inspiring story, God always moves in the right place and at the right time. God Bless You Bo!
it is indeed a very timely story i read today, today i celebrate my 39th birthday and i am in a hot seat with the one i work with. i don't know what lies ahead but i just want to do the best i could, preparing myself to whatever come, i may continue to do what is good that i suppose to do, thanks Bo and more power
ReplyDeleteHello, brother Bo, thank you for the inspiring stories. May I ask that a prayer be said for my husband? He was a lying hubby but for more than 2 years now he has turned his back from his bad womanizing ways (hopefully he will stay faithful to our family). But it still saddens me that he can't say no to his friends who likes alcohol (too much, in my opinion). He changes character once he is intoxicated. And this is bad not only to our relationship but to our children's young minds. Please help me pray for him. Thank you and thank you also for praying for my aunt Pilar on her birthday (13 March).
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the Bramantes in my life...i took them as challenges...one thing is sure...I AM NOT A BRAMANTE AND WILL NEVER BE A BRAMANTE TO ANYBODY...promise...
ReplyDeleteLet's try looking at this world as perfect, the people are perfect in their own state of being and for all these, let's give thanks, even when we perceive something as "not good" because "everything that the Lord lays upon us will lead to a wonderful end. For the Lord is merciful"
ReplyDeleteBro. Bo:
ReplyDeletei'm an avid fan of Kerygma and ur other books!
it is indeed a very timely story, as am experiencing some Bramantes in my life; I'll be celebrating my bday this coming Good Friday and I really don't know what lies ahead of me, especially with my work!
sa 22o lng di ko talaga alam ang gagawin ko! thank u so much for this wonderful story! di ako nawawalan ng pag-asa mski grabe hrap pngddaan ko ngyon! GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!!!
thanks so much, Bro. Bo! God bless and more power!
PS: please include me in ur prayers!
We may have lots of Bramantes but what is important is that our God is more powerful than any bramantes in this world. Have faith and trust God. He always has a good plan for us.
ReplyDeleteMan is imperfect. You look around and you will see imperfections. That's reality. That's the challenge of our earthy life. By doing good inspite of imperfections, we are serving our purposes and bring us closer to our ultimate goal--eternal life.
ReplyDeleteGod will surely guide us everyday...let us all be happier with what we have chosen in ourlives...
Wishing everybody a meaningful holy week and a meaningful life ahead...
Bro. BO, Yeah, you're correct. Praise God! I did have lots of "Bramantes" in my life, too. I applied for a principal item, they ranked me 10th out of the 10, some applicants were just classroom teachers. When items came in the division for ES-I, instead of giving one to me, of course, I know and they, too, knew I was qualified to the position, because I've been designated as division coordinator on that subject, they gave it to someone else closer to them. I lifted all these frustrations to God.
ReplyDeleteToday, I'm now a Regional Supervisor! Praise God! Where are those who persecuted me? They're still down below! God is really GOOOOOD! All the Time!
Dear Bo,
ReplyDeleteAs with all things we should look to Jesus Christ and point to Him as our ultimate example. He alone was "good" and He suffered a horrible crucifixion for all our sins. He went to the cross as a blameless sacrifice for all of us, yet He did not argue, complain, or defend Himself even though He was Innocent. We should all look to Jesus as our true example of trust, faith, hope, and sacrifice. John 14:6 - Jesus said, "I and the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me." May we all trust in Jesus to guide us, comfort us, encourage us, and show us His ways to endure the times when suffer on this earth He has blessed us with. Jesus also tells us in John 16:33, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." Jesus tells us we WILL have trouble, but for us to take heart in Him as He has overcome this world! Amen!
Hi Bo,
ReplyDeleteAmen to what you have written....very true and very inspiring...I agree to everyone it was a question I asked God last night and he answered through you...
Thank you and God Bless
Dear Brother Bo,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your gift of wisdom for people who are on continuous search for the meaning of life, just like me.
Its indeed mysterious to face the fact that bad things occur even to good people. Its been quoted a lot of times in books, movies, etc. It became a familiar phrase.
But then, the negative event in our life will certainly make us a better person of tomorrow. I had my share on this too.
God bless you more.
Chester
Bo,
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter! ur article was great! I was so grateful i was able to read it before Holy Friday. You really touches my life. Am glad my husband Edmund introduce me to you through your books and concerts too. God bless u always and ur loved ones.
Marilyn
Thank you for this encouraging story Bo. Its very enlightening and a good thing to remember each time we are faced with a decision and how to view things especially when the going gets tough.
ReplyDeleteGod is so sovereign that what ever happens, his will is always good, pleasing and perfect for us, though it may seem unpleasant at the start the end is a blessing!
god is good i need this word of wisdom thank you so much for this story . i know god is always there for me.
ReplyDeletethanks big BRO.
god bless and happy easter...
hi bro. bo,
ReplyDeletethanks for this timely message for the holy week. yes, behind every joy is the cross, the suffering. Jesus Himself Who is God, showed us an example, by dying on the cross. " No greater love is there, than giving up one's life for a friend." as St. Therese had put it, suffering is necessary in order to attain joy in Jesus ; that in our suffering, Jesus comes into our hearts and dwell within us; she said, we have to welcome Him and let Him rest in tranquility... further she said, eternity is not enought to thank Him for having us partake in His suffering. what a beautiful wisdom St. Therese have of suffering. may we, like her accept our crosses daily, small and big crosses, knowing that it is necessary , in order to obtain Joy in our Lord Jesus here on earth and in Eternity!
thanks once again .
Joyful Easter to you and your family!!!
strel
Thanks Bro Bo
ReplyDeleteI'm really struggling right now. I've made a mess of my life and now I find myself asking why these things happened despite striving to do my best. Though I still consider myself lucky (since I know that other people are in far worse conditions), I always get stressed worrying about our future.
I can only keep on pursuing my dream and trust in God. Need you prayers. Thank you.
hi bro. bo...thank you for this wonderful article. it's very timely . you see i commited to 40 days of fasting and i didn't get to finish it because i got sick (acid reflux, very painful). although i know that's a valid reason i still feel guilty and depressed. your article has helped me ease this a bit...okay a lot. thank you for that, i'm sure God has a plan for me. it's just that i was so happy when i was fasting, i really felt Jesus' presence. i'll do it again next year and be really prepared for it.
ReplyDeleteto get a detailed account check out my site: www.deathtomycreditcards.blogspot.com . God bless you! You're da bomb!!!

thank you for this article brother Bo....no matter how many "Bramante's" are lurking around me...One BIG God is more than enough to protect me...God Bless
ReplyDeletethank you bo, like all the others, this message was right on time! it's easy to feel like quitting when something is hard to do bt knowing that there is a loving God that knows the big picture helps.
ReplyDeleteYAHHHHHHHHH.. Amen to all what you said. I have my
ReplyDeleteBramante experience and I overcome through my prayers. When will you be back in Abu Dhabi (UAE)? I want to attend your seminar "Truly Rich Super Direct Marketing Program"!
God bless and best regards,
Thans Bo for the article/message. This was just timely, our internet shop was rob just this morning and got 5 pieces of CPU. I have asked "why us", we never did anything wrong to other people. We are living in a Christ like way but this thing happened to us. WMe and my wife are so depress now since this is our first business. we have put up so much effort on this. We are just so thankful that nobody was hurt. It;s just material anyway. God is still there with us. I know God is good. Thanks so much Bo!
ReplyDeletehi bo ^^
ReplyDeletetimely for me (and i know for others, too). i just got an e-mail from my student stating her sudden difficulty due to her father's diagnosed cancer. it came in a time that she's totally unprepared, i can feel her confusions since just a few weeks ago she eagerly told me about her upcoming wedding.
i couldn't think of the right words to say to console her, she's from another country and though i know she's a christian, i'm not really sure about her ideals when it comes to religion, and we hardly talk abt it during our classes. but really GOD is good all the time, I landed on this article and I thought HE wanted me to pass this on to Judy (that's her name), thanks Bo, for not getting tired of sharing all the blessings. GOD bless you more.
Dear Bo,
ReplyDeleteYou're really such a blessing to us...your stories and experiences you share are all inspiring, thought-provoking, and seem like the big C (Conscience) ...
Thanks for your unselfishness and the courage to "disturb" .....
More power! and to God be the glory...
Veekee
hi bo
ReplyDeletethnx for your inspiring articles, it makes me stronger and makes me realize that I am not alone in this world... There is God and He is so good, He always listens and always there for me no matter what....
May God continue to bless you and your family and may you continue to be a blessing to everyone..
Stay happy!
thanks for the timely message but I hope GOD would never let my hand slip because everytime I wanted to end everything it all boils down to one thing. I am afraid i may not see heaven after all...And every time, I nearly slip to suicidal someone or something would remind me that my problems are just nothing compared to what others suffer so much....
ReplyDeletei thinks its GOD who let me open this mail...i always asked myself, im a good girl but why still bad things happen to me...now i know, bad things are there no matter what, its just how we deal with it...its part of our daily struggle to makes us a better person...it makes me feel too that this is god's answer /sign for me...the word "dont give up" struck me...yes GOD i will not give up...thanks bosanchez for sharing this wonderful story...very eye opening...
ReplyDeletedoing things what is right in our lives would lead us to GOD's kingdom.
ReplyDeleteAs much as we would always like to think of ourselves as the Michelangelo being tormented by a Bramante in our life, I think that at one point or another in our lives, we may have been the Bramante to other Michelangelos, except of course that we were too blinded to see it. This Holy Week, especially on Good Friday, may we be reminded (or enlightened) of the times we may have been a Bramante to somebody. (I somehow pity Bramante, I'm sure he somehow also had some good in him) :-)
ReplyDeleteAfter all, the greatest "good" person who walked the earth suffered perhaps the "worst" thing that could happen. But in the end, He gave all of us an Easter Sunday to show for it.
Happy Easter!
Cheers!
Amen to Jesus Christ!
ReplyDeleteThere is always a gift behind every painful experience that we go through. Oysters make pearls out of the grains of sand that irritate them. GOD CAN TURN OUR CURSES INTO OUR GREATEST BLESSINGS IF WE LET HIM. HE IS THAT GOOD.
ReplyDeleteDear Bro. Bo,
ReplyDeleteLife is like a wheel sometimes you are up and sometimes you are down. In every downfall there is always an opportunity for rising up again. As long as you continue doing good, you will always have chances of recovering from your failures. Thank you Bro. Bo your article is very timely for me because I am at the downside of the wheel of life these past months. Your article inspires me to always do even better. God bless you and your family Bro. Bo and may your ministry continue to grow and prosper. Always count me in as your loyal follower.
Dear Bro.Bo
ReplyDeleteHi! Thank you for that inspiring article. honestly, no matter how busy i am i always see to it that i never missed to look at my email. I look forward to new insights that i will learn from your write ups. Yes, you are right! I should not get discouraged when things just turn out not the way i want it, God is good all the time. Thanks Bro. Bo and more power to you and your family.
i'm living alone in abu dhabi and needed that advice a while ago. thank you. me and my bramante are in good terms just now after i prayed and read this article. i hope tuloy-tuloy na. although i can't change her being bramante towards others.
ReplyDeleteDear Bo,
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about the web of manipulations of the devil on Bramante just to prop up himself and discredit Michaelangelo in the making of the Sistine Chapel. One thing I learned is that the devil will always devise schemes to prevent good people from accomplishing good deeds, or create circumstances to deter good things to happen. Another is that only God knows the underlying motivations of people involved, and therefore, He is the only One who can turn a curse into a blessing or the One who knows whom to give such blessing. We, therefore, just have to offer to Him what we do, or what would our response be to a certain situation - thinking whether what we do pleases God.
Truly so many Bramante in our daily lives. Faith and Love in HIM and He will lead us the way. Thanks bo! a really inspiring story. More power!!
ReplyDeleteDear Bo,
ReplyDeleteEverytime I'm down I always open my computer and read all your articles. Its true that there are lots of Bramante in our lives.
Its really difficult to overcome but with the Grace of GOD , He's always there helping out the troubles. Thanks for your article ,it really enlightens me today because I'm experiencing Bramante in my work right now. She's really making my life miserable (I dont know why) but I will just pray for her and let my GOD do the judgement. Thank you and may GOd bless you always!
This is a very good example of facing trials in life! Thank You Bro. Bo, I will always remember this forever! Thank You God! God Bless You All!
ReplyDeletevery, very inspiring and motivating as well :)

ReplyDeleteDear Brother Bo:
Nice to have more Bramante's in our lives.... This is our challenge to be more tougher to face all the challenge we have now and in the future.
God always with us all the time.... we have the security under Gods protection.
God bless and Happy easter!
Dear Bro. Bo,
ReplyDeleteI too have my own share of Bramante's and I have so many scars in life to show for it. And up to now I don't know why bad things happen to simple guys like me who simply try to serve the Lord by serving the poor.
But finding the answer to that question is not so important as staying the course, and just remaining faithful to the call. Maybe I don't really have to know the answer at all. I will just keep on serving, no matter what. Ganuon lang ka-simple.

Bramantes or No-Bramante, as Christians we only have one mission in this life. That is to Love, even the unlovable/difficult persons around us. Coz that's what the whole salvific Easter is all about. The Lord Loving us with unconditional love and giving of his own self to save us.
ReplyDeleteBlessed Easter!
Hi Bro Bo!
ReplyDeleteI agree!
"Bramante's" can truly be useful to us when we take them as opportunity for our growth. We should be strengthened, not weakened, by them.
We should turn threats into opportunities. And when we look at them this way, things will be lovable for us.
God bless us:-)
Thanks bro. Bo and to those who keep on giving comments that inspire other people as well. I'm struggling as I wait for the right job for me after my graduation last week. As I wait, I'll not pay attention to "Bramante/s" in my life, instead I'll keep serving the Lord!
ReplyDeleteGod bless!
Thanks bro. Bo and to those who keep on giving comments that inspire other people as well. I'm struggling as I wait for the right job for me after my graduation last week. As I wait, I'll not pay attention to "Bramante/s" in my life, instead I'll keep on serving the Lord!
ReplyDeleteGod bless!
bramantes' will always be there, but thankfully that we have a big GOD who doesn't leave us alone... He would at all times encourage us and lift our spirit up for us to have courage and be on fire to go on our dreams.
ReplyDeleteThanks God that he's using you Bro Bo to encourage his people. God bless you and your family.
God loves us so much that He gives us His trust. That whatever situation we may come across, we are able to face it with great faith and strength. We only have to believe in ourselves and know that God is always there for us... Have no fear we are God's champion!
ReplyDeleteDon't think of those situations as a "bad thing" but instead just something that spices and brings color to our life... That's optimism! :)
Thank you Bro. Bo...
Ive learned that having a grateful heart is one best way to counter all the negativity that surrounds me... always be thankful, even of the smallest thing... even for the trials that we encounter, be thankful for that too for it will help you be a better person...

Bramantes have a big role to play in our life to test our faith in God. In our case we have many Bramantes in our neighborhood who try to pull us down, however because of our hope and trust in God and continue doing what is good they did not succeed.

Hello Bo,
ReplyDeleteThis is so true, you really inspired me and I am so thankful that in my darkest moment, 05-30-08 I turned on my laptop browse the net and God showed me your Website this is so amazing , I heard a word or two about your name to one of my Christian friend and I said oh,ah, his Catholic and drop the topic she was about to start, and here I am writing Truly Blessed and happy that thru your website that i can get answers to all my qualms about life being so unfair to me, and realize that I am a Selfish Christian, I am humbled upon reading and cried that all this time i know that I am loved, spoiled even, I Love my Daddy even more,My Saviour! Jesus Christ! I would like to share a lovely and inspiring poem and one of my favorite, and speak so much about your topic here,
People are Often unreasonable;
People are often unreasonable,illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of
selfish ulterior motives;
Be Kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends,
and some true enemies;
Succeed Anyway.
If you are honest, and frank, people may cheat you;
Be Honest and Frank Anyway.
What you spend years in building, some could destroy overnight;
Build Anyway.
If you find peace, and serenity they may be jealous;
Be Happy Anyway.
The good you do today people will often forget tomorrow;
Do Good Anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you have Anyway.
You see in the final analysis,it is Between you and God anyway; it was never between you and them anyway....
I

ReplyDeleteSuch an inspiring story!
ReplyDeleteBramante was a rude and jealous person, but he played a very crucial role in Michelangelo's success. Certainly there are many Bramantes in our world today, but weren't they born with such purpose? Or will God punish them? Maybe God created them to serve that purpose.
Please enlighten me..

hi bo!
ReplyDeletei know this is an old post pero i hope u cud help me out.. i have a dear friend who is going thru a very trying time right now.. and he've asked me "why does God enjoy seeing good people suffer, if not why does he allow good people who believe in him suffer so much to the point that they lose every ounce of hope in their bodies?"
i don't know what to say.. i believe that we don't know the answer.. but could u help me give him hope? what should one say when their friends suffer and on the verge of giving up to their problems and faith?
