Prayer Meetings Should Make Us Serve Jesus In The Poor

Yep, we’re 26 years old!
Just to explain: I started Light of Jesus as a scrawny 14-year-old kid. I never thought it would grow to an international organization that would give birth to three other dynamic orgs: (1) Anawim, a ministry for the poorest of the poor, (2) Shepherds Voice, a media ministry bringing people closer to God, and (3) the Light of Jesus Counselling Center to help the wounded and broken of society. (Impossible, right? That's what I always tell myself. But God can use the weakest, dumbest, most insignificant creatures to further His glory. Look at me!)
And so how did we celebrate our birthday today?
Not in some fancy hotel with a humongous buffet and a gigantic chandelier over our heads. Not wearing Barong Tagalogs and embroidered gowns and high-heeled shoes.
Instead, we did it Light of Jesus style: with torn jeans and crummy tee-shirts, we dirtied our hands and served the poor. We went to Anawim, our home for the abandoned elderly, and cemented their pathways, repainted their chapel, cleaned their cemetery, landscaped their gardens and did a hundred other things for those that we love.
It was a beautiful, messy, hilarious celebration.
The men held shovels, the women held brooms, the young held paint brushes, the old danced for us, and we sang like there was no tomorrow.
By the way, did you know how we celebrated last year’s anniversary?
Exactly the same way: We built our Gawad Kalinga Village (90 houses) and the He Cares Foundation Village (50 houses).
Yep, it’s becoming a tradition.
Oh, everyone went home with so much joy today!
And as I drove back, I thought about the past 26 years.
After 26 years as community, we’ve already held 24,000+ prayer meetings. (That’s true! Because we’ve got lots of chapters in different places, each of them having their own prayer meetings.) And this is the fruit of those 24,000+ prayer meetings: We serve the poor today. Because the Jesus that we worship in a prayer meeting is the same Jesus that lives in the poorest of the poor. Any prayer meeting that doesn’t make us see that reality is essentially lacking.
In Anawim, we’ve already served 1,000,000 individual meals since we began.
One million!
(To all those who are members of the Kerygma Family, thank you for supporting our work. If you haven’t joined us, please do so! Visit us at www.kerygmafamily.com now! Don’t delay.)
Happy Birthday, Light of Jesus.
Let us love the poor of the Lord so that they won’t be poor anymore.

PS. By the way, about this new blog I’ve started: I haven’t told you the title yet. Will tell you in due time! Surprise!

  5. First time i know BO, i was inspired to do more loving people-----not a mere people but difficult people that surrounds me everyday. That's why, i buy kerygma every month even i have a little money 'coz i'm a working student.I buy also some of his books actually i want to buy all of his books but i don't have enough money as a working student. I used some articles of kerygma and his books everytime i have a talk and prayer meetings. I shared kerygma to my friends to influence and to inspire them too. I want to follow the steps of BO even 1/3 of his achievements for GOD's sake. I always listen to his audio and video talks. Everytime i use a computer i pay for the internet but it doesn't matter for me. Because of him, i was inspired to be a voracios reader especially reading religious--books.

THIS is my passion now of what GOD whispered on me "follow the steps of successful-religious-man and share my love to all humanity and gather more skills, wisdom, and knowledge and also use my sense of humor that the lingerings love forever remain to their happy face". This words instill everyday to my mind. Oh. how i love GOD.

I am very obsessed the teachings of BO and to his good character. I don't care if people will say " Bo, na naman! " well, BO change myself to be a loving person that's why his my idol.
GOD used people to be his communicator just like BO to transform many lives.

Thank GOD He's BOSS and thank you also BO for sharing your precious time, talents and treasures to us. May the Lord bless you and your family at all times.
    "A thousands thanks"

    Principle:
" When i get a little money i buy books but if any is left, i buy foods and clothes"

    Read more and be more.....

I am back for more readings..I should say that reading your blog is my new "hidden" addiction now, but I should not be bothered about it coz it´s for my own good. And as a proof, I´ve decided to read your blog from the very start..and so far, so good. It´s always inspiring.

God bless you always Tito. Hope to see you in person one of these days.
