“Bite-Size It!”

It’s The Secret of Champions.

The average NBA player hits 8.3 points per game.

Michael Jordan’s average score was a mind-blowing 32 points per game.

That’s why Michael Jordan was Michael Jordan.

Jordan was so incredibly consistent he retired in 1999 from the NBA still keeping his 32 point career average. Here’s the remarkable thing: His 32 points happened whether he had injuries or not, or who his coach was, or who his teammates were, or who he was playing against. He just scored 32 points—more or less—per game.

When asked how he was able to do that, he revealed the powerful secret of champions. Jordan said, “I simplified it a few years ago: 32 points per game is really just 8 points per quarter. I figure I can get that in some kind of way during the course of a game.”

Amazing? In other words, he “bite-sized” his goal.

Which is what you should be doing if you want to win in life.

Bite-Size Your

Unrealistic Dreams

Let’s say Jeff earns P25,000 a month today.

But Jeff dreams of earning P100,000 a month one day.

Many people will call him, “Unrealistic”.

But in my book, that’s good. I wrote in a previous blog post that from my experience, Unrealistic Dreams attract more resources and commitment because they’re more exciting.

But I agree, dreaming of earning P100,000 a month is daunting. Like flying to the moon.

But like Jordan, Jeff should bite-size it.

Because Jeff surfs the net a lot, he wants to start an internet business. Specifically, he wants to build a website that will earn through Google ads. His goal: Earn P25,000 each month.

His third business venture is his networking marketing business. His goal: Create a passive income of P25,000 each month.

His fourth business venture is connected to his hobby—selling second-hand cars. His uncle has been doing it for years, earning hundreds of thousands each month, and promised to teach him. So if Jeff sells one car a month, he already earns P25,000 each month. (Note: If you want to start your own business, I recommend that you join the Truly Rich Super Marketing Workshop. Click here for more information.)

All of a sudden, P100,000 a month is now doable.

Warning: Jeff shouldn’t start 4 businesses at one go.

He should start one at a time.

And it’s also possible that one of these businesses will be his main business—and explodes to P100,00 a month by itself.

But more on this later…

I Apply Bite-Sizing To My Ministry

Many years ago, I dreamt that I would have 10 special ministries for the poorest of the poor. Not one. Not two. Not three. But ten!

I wanted to care for the abandoned elderly, visit the prisoners, house the orphans, and send street kids to school; I also wanted to build homes for the urban poor and establish a micro-lending program for poor women… I wanted to do so much!

My dream was nuts. It was absolutely insane.

Well today, that dream is no longer a dream.

Here’s an update: We now have 7 ministries for the poorest of the poor. (Yes, we have 3 more to go!) Here’s a secret I’ll discuss with you later: I cheated. I didn’t even have to start the ministries. All I had to do was partner with fantastic friends who were already doing what I wanted to do. In other words, I bite-sized!

Focus On The One Thing

As Jeff shouldn’t start 4 businesses right away, I didn’t start 10 ministries right away.

I just focused on One Thing.

For me, that was Anawim, our home for the abandoned elderly.

For 3 years, I had to live on a piece of land that had nothing else but cogon grass—with no running water and electricity. Together with volunteers, we lived in nipa huts and cared for the poorest of the poor. We picked them up from the streets and cared for them as our own. We made so many mistakes, I can write a book about them. (Don’t worry, I won’t.)

Once Anawim was established, I was now able to move on to other things. (By the way, I’d like to invite you to be my Partner in my ministries. Join KerygmaFamily.com and together, we can share God’s Love to the world. Log on at www.KerygmaFamily.com now!)

Friend, what is your One Thing?

If you have an Unrealistic Dream, focus on One Thing.

Let me give you another example.

When I wanted to earn more money, I entered into a half-a-dozen businesses: I sold herbal juice, engine oil, memorial plans; I put up a fish ball cart, built an ice cream store, and put up a hotdog stand. Result? I lost money. Big time.

I learned my lesson. I was doing too many things, too soon.

I’ve now learned that at the start of the journey, I should focus on One Thing.

Once that One Thing was stable, I moved on to the next One Thing.

Result? I’m now enjoying multiple income streams: (1) Corporate Seminars; (2) Real Estate; (3) Internet Marketing Business; (4) Education; (5) Financial Services; (6) Stock Market; and (7) Mutual Funds.

But it didn’t start with seven.

It started with one.

Let me ask you again: What is your One Thing?

Cheat!

Find A Dream Team

Finding a Dream Team is so powerful, it’s almost like cheating. (Okay, it's not really cheating. But I'm using this word to SHOCK you into action.)

Believe me, when you have an Unrealistic Dream, you’ll be forced to look for a Dream Team.

After 10 years of building Anawim, I knew I was in trouble.

Because I couldn’t take another 10 years to build my second ministry for the poor! I did the math: If my goal were 10 ministries, then it would take me 100 years to fulfill my dream.

And then it hit me: Why create the ministries from scratch? Why not partner with other friends who were already doing what I wanted to do?

So I cheated. I looked for a Dream Team who had my passion for the poor.

Anawim is now led by Tim Duran and an incredible team of servants.

After that, I partnered with a street kids ministry, He Cares, led by my friend Jodean Sola.

After that, I partnered with Gawad Kalinga to build a village in Montalban beside Anawim.

After that, I partnered with Rey Ortega and his Alay Foundation, a scholarship program for poor children, and his Tahanan orphanage.

And together, we’re expanding all these ministries.

Friend, cheat!

Who is your Dream Team?

May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez

  1. Thanx Bro. Bo for your msg once again! Just wondering why you used the word..CHEAT! I think that's not a victorious word at all! You didn't actually cheat,,,,,there must be a better term or an appropriate word to get what you mean! We ask wisdom from above for the right word to use, i think! Anyway, God bless you!

  2. Thanks for continuing to inspire us. Your message is very much applicable to what I am going thru right now. I have a lot of big dreams and I do hope to achieve them in the future. Your words always provide good guidance.
Here you teach us to be patient and how to strategize and how to be resourceful and look for partners.

    God Bless Us All!

  3. I agree with you. No one can focuse on multiple businesses in just a snap of a finger. It takes lots of experiences before you can do that. We need to be careful with our business partner too As what you have said, let's avoid manipulative people..

Cheating is not a good terminology. May I suggest you use other terminology instead...

You are really inspiring bro Bo.. God bless

  4. That was so inspiring.... practical reasons for aiming unrealistic goals but somehow will come into reality with hard work and faith in God... and with Him, nothing is impossible...God bless....

  8. thanks bro. bo, as usual we always learn something when you write or speak, this is really helpful and inspiring to those who dream big! i think we can use, 'take a short-cut' instead of 'cheat'. i hope you can come to cebu for one of your seminars at least., we' will pray for that. God bless the ministry1

Thanks for the inspiring words, however word "cheat" does not seem good to hear why not try "Bridge the gap" . It's good thing to hear some phrase "build a bridge" for family, friends and your worst enemy. God bless....

  11. Praise God because today we have started promoting our product Ashpa. It's our dream that it will really become big though we are taking things one at a time. We're praying that God would allow us to honor Him more through our finances. I agree that it will really take time before we could actually see the fruits of our labor, so in the meantime we are enjoying the journey of challenges that we experience.
Help us pray for Ashpa too.

    Praise God for you Bo!

PS: I don't think you cheated, I think you are SYNERGIZING.

  12. nice post.

please don't use the word cheat. it has a negative effect on your motivation.

words are powerful yu see that's why we believe in you...and still believing...no one's perfect though...

    Go bless and more power!

  13. Thanks Bro Bo. I agree with the ones who commented earlier...Cheat is nega...but medyo sanay na ako sa humor mo when writing or talking..so "gets" ko na ibig mo sabihin. Synergize is such a nice word too..and it's what I thought while reading your blog..then I read Edna Lyn's comment...so as if na confirm yung naisip ko rin.
    God bless you!

  14. I agree that if you have a dream, you have to take little things a day like the old quotes, " the journey starts with one step" so one little action at a time to reach the goal.
I have a goal that I would be a milllionaire before I reach my 30's so I started a business with my friends but after a year or so the business was nowhere. We are all so inexperience about handling the retailing business. Lesson learned for me is to find a dream team that is already doing what you want to achieve. Im happy now coz I found my partners for the next business that we will venture in and the thing is one of my partners is teaching me the basic of the business. i'm happy that im taking things one step at a time and focusing at one aspect of the business at a time. I still have 3 more years to reach my goal. Thank God!

  15. I got curious with the title - Bit-Size, so I decided to follow the link and read the entire blog to know more. It was such a very encouraging blog except when I saw the words 'cheated', 'cheat', and 'cheating'. I know you don't really meant 'cheat'. Perhaps you could replace them with some other word (pick the one suggested above).

Nevertheless, this blog opens many opportunities. Thanks again Bro. Bo for sharing to us another secret. God bless you and your family even more with good health, good fortune, and good day.

    Cheers!

This article is Financially enlightening to all of us who wants to find ways and means to improve our financial condition. I've attended the last "Financial Coaching Planning Seminar" and it was very helpful, it improves my financial literacy, opens a lot of opportunities to me and my family. More power! 20. nice article.
even tho most of us aren't in the business world, in our own little way, we can be an instrument of God's love for others, by doing our little things " extraordinarily well " like St. Therese did. Jesus said, " by their fruits, you will know them..." then lives you have touched by your good example may say, Mother Teresa said, " Jesus had just passed this way ..."
    thanks bro. bo.
God bless you and your family.

    CHEAT

Oh well I suppose 20+ years of normal education will program us to be hung up on this word. Realize this, entrepreneurs actually do not make good students.

    Entrepreneurs copy from experts.
Good students are taught that -that's cheating!

Entrepreneurs think that's just good common sense not to make all the mistakes personally--and to copy from those who did it before -or to benefit from their expertise.

Bo was not talking about exams or busines deals
    He's talking about your dreams.

For your dreams, are you willing to "cheat"?
Are you willing to COPY FROM EXPERTS?

Ah, at least Bo explained that he used it to shock everyone. I guess it worked.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Nice article!

However, I also think that the word "cheat" is not appropriate, although of course Bro. Bo explained what he meant by that. It's not really cheating I believe.

Learning from and partnering with the expert is not cheating at all, it just shows that you're humble enough to tell yourself that you need others too in fulfilling your dreams.

    Blessings,

    Hephzibah

  23. hi, bo! you really have shocked me. imagine, bo sanchez, a cheater? but, you have delivered your message loud and clear.. slowly but surely, take things one day at a time, big leap starts with a single step, to mention a few.
you're great bo! sana, marami kaming mahawa sa kagalingan mo!
    May your tribe increase!!

  24. Yes, Bo! I agree, we should not re-invent the wheel. Use and enhance whatever is available. That is commonly used in Information Technology (IT) esp. in the area of Application Development. To our friends, do not be misled with the word "CHEAT" that Bo uses here. It's only a word and words may have different meaning according to its uses. For us, in IT, we usually use the word "cheat" when we do work-arounds in programming which is not the common-way of doing. Just like that... Cheers! :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. yes bo i'm shocked into action by your choice of the word 'CHEAT'. not in fulfilling my dreams but in writing my comments. i don't really understand why you use the word 'CHEAT' when what you are talking about is clearly not cheating at all! it is just trying to be CREATIVE in fulfilling your dreams. not cheating! it really sucked reading the line 'FRIEND, CHEAT!'. why not changed it to 'FRIEND, BE CREATIVE!'? maybe i'm just a poor dumb person who can't understand and accept your use of the word 'CHEAT' in your article. maybe you guys have much higher level of intelligence and understanding in accepting the word 'CHEAT' and 'CHEATING' in this article. anyway this is just my own honest opinion. not meant to offend anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I just noticed that a lot of the comments have noted the word CHEATING.... personally, i think that what you did was not THAT but you were just being RESOURCEFUL... to achieve your dreams and goals. I think people have experienced what you have at one point in their lives wanting to do a lot, wanting to achieve a lot. But all we can do is really do what we can in the best possible way we can in anyway we can. Of course with God's help and HIS infinite wisdom in HIS time... Cheers.... God bless to you Brother Bo and all your "helpers"........

    ReplyDelete
  27. see the big difference if we replaced every word 'CHEAT, CHEATING, CHEATED' in this article with the word 'CREATIVE, CREATING, CREATED'. now the article is very much more nicer to read, very pleasant, very positive, very moving, very inspiring and will even cause you to CREATE your own ways in fulling your dreams. it makes you become very CREATIVE in fulfilling and achieving your dreams. right words work magic in our lives.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Haha...so many secret hypocrisy was revealed and it's overflowing on these comments...(No Offense) they are bothered by the word "CHEAT". Then they focus on this word as negative but then they forgot that the negative can be your positive traits. Just like in the job interview when the interviewer ask you what are your weaknesses? Then you answer that question and become honest about your weakness but then you reason out and turned that weakness/es to be your positive traits to be useful in your work...as simple as that. Just like Jesus, He used the words YOU FOOLs when he rebuked the vendors in the Temple...so bastos din yun pakinggan kaya masma rin ba iyun? Sorry this is plain and simple word ...no issues...xtians shouldn't be easily affected. Always getting the thoughts and contents of the word/s. Misleading but with great impact and shocking that will move you into action...Figure of Speech...can be use with responsibility involve. Let's us learn and grow not all the time Milk is the only foods/drinks...Well...I respect your opinions but there's a saying that" If anything is good and if anythings seems right think and contemplate on these things" (Maybe that's not the exact words in the Bible again it's the Thoughts that Matters).

Thank you Mr. Bo...Keep on shocking and rockin...

    ReplyDelete
  29. yes it was really shocking for me. it moved me into action. that's why i commented. it's not hypocrisy when you try to honestly express what you really feel and the thing that bothers you. the word "CHEAT' in this article for me just does not ignite any creative powers in us in fulfilling our dreams. maybe that guy above named LORENZ is just very motivated and very happy to be told, 'FRIEND, CHEAT!' i don't know if Jesus had said that way in the bible in motivating his disciples or would say that way to us in fulfilling our dreams.

  31. Ops...I didnt mentioned anybody in particular but you mentioned my Name BOLDLY but thats ok. Some reacted..But that's a heallthy response sister. Anyways I got totally your point because you're just plain and honest and it's not only you "REACTED" on the "CHEAT" word. I speak and comment generally and in my humble opinion because it was so funny to read and see people focusses on that simple word and never really get the thoughts (Im not saying it was you). It's like in a white clothes with one little dot of stain and they see it defective and worn out already and with no use. But they didn't see that through that small dot of stain that clothes was noticed and and still have a lot of usage. Sometime you have to say the blatant word (with reponsibility as I said) just to move people and entice them to do action. Well no offense to everybody...Hypocrisy word I used marely for the reactions not to the person...Just get the thoughts and put into action...Which is more important anyways??? God Bless....

  32. Hi kuya Bo!

it was actually very inspiring as well as STARTLING! i was shocked to read the word CHEAT in there, but i know ur not talking about exams or anything about school, youre talking about DREAMS, but there are a lot of people who view things personally, so i just hope that for the satisfaction of those who do not like that word, especialy nowadays na CHEATING is the most disgusting word we dont want other's do unto us, please change that word with another terminology.

thank you kuya BO and GOD bless you always

    ReplyDelete
  33. i mean CHEATING is the word we dont want other's to do unto us, in your article kuiya bo we know that you are pertaining into something deeper... not the real meaning of that word. but more on the aspect of motivating people in the most shocking and hated word to make something beautiful out of it! the word 'Cheat" in your article might be compared to a disgusting VULVA or COCOOn wherein in proper time it ejects a BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY which will be ready to FLY to this world... so lets focus on the thoughts rather than on the superficial meaning of words...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi brother Bo! This is my first time to comment in your article, yes you did get my attention by putting the word "cheating" imagine the one I idolized cheated? I hurriedly finished it up reading to get your point because I couldn't accept that I idolized a cheater (LOL). But when I get to the bottom of your article, I find it very creative of you to used it. Let's accept the fact that everyone cheats whether at school, at work, or at home etc. (small things or big things), and that's shocked everyone because in some ways you are one of us! hehehe. Honestly, to someone who didn't read all the contents of the article might be very unhealthy to use it, but based on the title "bite sized it!" I understood that you can reach your goal by using some tricks positively. You really made a new definition of "cheating" in a positive way.. And that's good, I say Amen to that! Expect more comments from me onwards..God Bless everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  35. komusta na tanan? i really honestly think that the word " cheat " is a wrong choice of word to the level of my humble mentality. tho i know bro. bo's goal was to excite readers into action, i believe it has adverse effects emotionally to some readers. but look! it worked!!! everybody is entitled to their own beliefs. my comment on Jesus' saying " you fools... " only Him can say those words, being God. if we do say that to our brothers and sisters, we are all " liable to judgement ..."
salamat gyud kaayo bro. bo .
    may God inspire you more!

Thank you so much! And may you continue enlightening people's lives.

  37. Again for the nth time, finding a dream team to fulfill your dreams cannot be called CHEATING. The word ‘CHEAT’ does not really fit and apply to the last part of the article. It does not help drive the point of the author. Nor does it enhance the word “BITE-SIZE” as one guy named eddie jocson wrote. (Hey, I do not expect the Lord or your lord to be smiling at me).

I do not know if Bo was also addressing or writing that article to his wife and his kids. I do not know if your wife, your husband, your kids or your friends will ask you something to motivate them to fulfill their dreams you would say or write them “FRIEND, CHEAT”? then you would say afterwards, “IT’S JUST A WORD”? how about using the word “FUCK” (my apology) to drive your point or move people into action?

don’t get me wrong, i am an avid fan of Bo. I bought and read almost all his books because his thoughts and insights are very practical, moving and even humorous. Plus his style of writing is very simple and easy to understand. that’s why I find it very hard to understand why he used the word ‘CHEAT’ in this article just to drive his point in finding his dream team and then ended up with, ‘FRIEND, CHEAT!”. i got his point that’s why i suggested in my earlier comments to use the word ‘CREATE or CREATIVE’ because Bo was very CREATIVE in finding ways to fulfill his dreams. He CREATED his way to his dream team, not CHEATED. the last part should have been better written as ‘FRIEND, CREATE or BE CREATIVE!’ not ‘FRIEND, CHEAT!’.

Mr. Jocson...please don't mentioned my name i did not say jing is HYPOCRITE please read again my comments. By the way you grow overboard with your wordings. In this country, we respect women lalo na yung christianong lalake they can't say that...

    Hi Bro Bo,

I contemplated for so many times and finally I got you're message. If Christ didn't die for our sins or if He didn't ressurect on the third day what would happen to us...if He is not God He would not be ressurected by His own...He cannot say destroy this temple and I will built it in three days...but no one believe Him...personally I believe, that Jesus cheated the pharisee and satan as well, because their minds are closed. I watched again the Passion of Christ, Mel Gibson did well...on the last part satan is shouting because he know that he is not only defeated but as well cheated. As Jesus said, open your eyes when He speaking parables. I guessed this is what our country needs in order to move forward...defeat the poverty and educate the people. In Jesus Christ, God bless...

  49. Yes, Bo. Thank you very much for inspiring us. Let us also remember that prosperity begins with the end in mind. The mental attitude which we hold toward any undertaking has everything to do with what we accomplish. As -Joseph Murphy says “ The Law of Attraction attracts to you everything you need, according to the nature of your thought life. Your environment and financial condition are the perfect reflection of your habitual thinking. Thought rules the world."

To all reactors/commentators of Bro Bo's article :

“ May God open us a 'constant flow' of inner-peace and joy from within - and give us a greater sense of happiness in ALL areas of our lives!

Dale Carnegies says in his book How to Win Friends -“ The Best way to win an argument is TO AVOID IT.. God bless everyone!

Thanks for your wonderful message tito Bo. I find it really useful especially as a leader of Youth for Christ on our campus. At first I thought that this year would be a really hard year for me since God ordered me a lot of missions as a leader. Now, I am really enlightened of what to do with those tasks that God sent me. I'll do my best and focus at One Thing at a time! Thanks tito Bo! More power to you and God bless!

  57. Hi Bro Bo,

It was really creative of you to use the “catchy” word "CHEAT" to get our attention, spark our interest and read on. While it got mixed reactions, one thing’s for sure is that your message about “bite-sizing” goals/dreams for a much better chance to see them succeed was very well understood. Thank you for the reminder that it’s more effective to “bite-size” to have considerable control rather than to set “big, insurmountable” goal/s and have comparatively little control over it.

    Cheers!

  58. Dear Bro Bo,
So you got our attention by the word CHEAT.i dont really mind the word it is the message that matters most. When i was on my flight back to UK i saw this movie about a girl with cancer and ask a happy go lucky guy what his dream.the guy says none.but then she saw the good in this guy and told him if you dont have any dream, helping others fulfill their dream, can be your dream. That woke me up to help my nephew to continue his dream of becoming a doctor.
More Power and thank you for inspiring our lives.

  61. Thank you Bro. Bo for the inspiring blog.

  62. haha, im dreaming that youth ministry must become active in our parish because it dont exist at all, i want to get my friends for this Ministry but it seems that it so hard because of the modern trends, i really learned something tonight, CHEAT, now i must find some desired youths to help me get the other youths to be closer to God. (ahm im only 17 and i really came from the "idleness world, eg: addict in online games etc.") so for me im really blessed for the call of God to serve him as the lead servant of our PYM, and great from I being the lone member to 20members after 2months! hardwork really pays a lot! God Bless to all! (sorry for my english xD)

  63. Ah yes, you can "cheat" your way in internet marketing business by attending a workshop that bypasses the mistakes of those who came before and applying only the things that work.

Hmm, it makes sense. Since not everyone can afford to make all those mistakes I've done. Years of only earning CENTS in internet marketing before I found out how it should be done. How? I got to know the Manila's top earning bloggers -at least those who admitted that they earn a good amount (how about enough to buy a DSLR camera or car, that enough?). But I didn't learn from their words alone--I learned from their actions. They also "cheated" -listened to probloggers from Australia and applied those mate's advises.

Soon i lost no time in applying what they applied. If we were in school it would be copying from manila bloggers who copied from australian bloggers.
But in real life, copying/modelling --getting a mentor is considered WISE.

p.s. I also learned from Stephen Pierce. Look him up. He's now a corporate internet marketing consultant to HUGE companies in the USA and one of the pioneers of net marketing. :)

  70. Hi Bo,

I would just like to thank you for your articles. I just joined this website recently...and slowly I was able to find simple answers/directions to my difficult/unanswered questions. I've been struggling for things I don't know and how to face them. I feel helpless and frustrated, but I don't know why. I'm aware of many blessings that God has been giving me...but still I can't find the peace I'm looking for because of worrying to much around me. I keep on asking for strength and enlightenment so I could find ways and know the answer, yet at the end of the day, I feel hopeless.
But with the simple words in your articles make me think and realize I have not realized before. It somehow softens my heart and feel the presence of the Lord (which I've been longing for).

I just want to please pray for me...that I may find peace and understand what's happening to me. Just like you said, I shouldn't complicate my life. Live and find that "One Thing" that will lead me to what I'm longing for...Happiness.

Thanks again and God Bless You :-)

  71. It's always been a pleasure reading your blogs, articles and also bought some of your books, I'm a really big fan of you. (i prefer to just read and not comment on it, since alot of the viewers have comment already). lolz, well, only now..i guess, the comments i have read from the viewers make me smile...it seems everybody is commenting on the word "cheat" .. (pasensya at natawa lang ako, its funny..coz each person has his or her own reaction to the word..medyo parang naging issue na sya instead of your inspiring word- comment ko lang..lolz)

anyway, i look forward to read more of your awesome, inspiring words Bro. Bo..you never know how much you have touched alot of ppl's life w/ your words, stories (funny, inspiring, drama, etc), your words are real and true (hit like bullseye) and they really freshen up the souls (most of all, souls who are tired, helpless and lost their faith...u simply have the words to bring them back again that life is good and the Christ love them just as they are . God bless to you and more power to you, your family and your ministries..
